Dr. Mahtab Jafari is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Irvine; Founding Director of UCI’s Center for Healthspan Sciences; a National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach; and the author of the award-winning book The Truth About Dietary Supplements: An Evidence-Based Guide to a Safer Medicine Cabinet.
With over 30 years of biomedical research experience, Dr. Jafari’s laboratory investigates how botanicals and dietary supplements influence lifespan and healthspan—particularly focusing on Rhodiola rosea. She collaborates closely with Alaskan Rhodiola farmers to advance quality standards and ensure the highest integrity of this powerful adaptogen.
The Farmers
In 2009, Steve Veal and Jonathan Peters founded Cabin Lake Farms in the fertile lands of Kenai, Alaska. Driven by patience and purpose, they committed themselves to cultivating Rhodiola rosea—a plant that requires five years of careful nurturing before its roots can be harvested.
Their families have built their livelihoods around this mission, guided by the belief that Rhodiola rosea can meaningfully enhance people’s lives. Every drop of R+ reflects their dedication, discipline, and respect for nature’s pace—grown, harvested, and extracted with the care only generational farmers can give.
The Founders
Ryan and Chris are stepbrothers united by a shared conviction: no one should have to sacrifice their long-term health to sustain their daily drive.
As high-performing professionals—Ryan balancing a full-time career in cybersecurity while managing emerging house music talent, and Chris leading entrepreneurial development programs and training clients in fitness—they both knew the toll of constant caffeine dependence.
Together, they spent the past two years building Kayara Labs with a singular goal: to create a clean, effective, and scientifically grounded way to restore energy, focus, and balance—realized in the R+ Rhodiola rosea tincture.
